Risen from the Ashes, F.T. Will Not Be Silenced!
"Teflon" Brubaker was found of saying he had enough dirt on everybody to make sure he’d never face trial. However "reform" minded Regent Ling-Raleigh forced Brubaker out of the tarnished fold of the Regina police. Less than 72 hours later he was dead and the incendiary files he used like a lead-filled club were gone. Police deny finding any files in his apartment.
If Brubaker’s death had occurred on it’s own there would only be the ordinary stench of corruption as one of the power elite moved to protect her own. But in 24 hours a brutal organlegger and a Zhodani "mind criminal" would also be gunned down by the same 1.8mm armour-piercing projectiles.
Chavik Caal was a sleaze, but he was a careful sleaze. F.T. has learned that Chavik Caal, a Zhodani, was supposedly on the run from the dreaded Zhodani Mind Police. Caal is known to have had a hand in an underage pornography and prostitution ring that kept records that were more thorough than the Regina Tax Authority, according to sources in Regina’s underworld. CC Pawn was also known for keeping meticulous records of all their clients.
Brubaker had many dealings with CC Pawn, one of Regina’s largest, cheapest-paying pawn shops. The dirt Caal’s photos and lists could provide would make Brubaker untouchable. Over thirty Regina police were counted in CC Pawn after Chavik Caal’s body was found. With thirty officers checking the shop no records of any kind were found according to official reports. But it is the third bullet’s victim that makes this conspiracy of silence so terrifying.
Custus "Chooser" Chugrin was the last victim of this off-world assassination team. "Chooser" was an organlegger known for "custom" orders, the killing of individuals of a specific blood or tissue type for their organs. He was a brutal man in a hard, hope-killing shadow trade. None of his organs were disturbed despite his body being near a known hangout of Regina’s worst criminals, the Laughing Cadaver. The last of the victims, he was the clean up man for the cop and the corrupter.
Brubaker- Protected by Caal’s files. Known to have intimidated or punished low level enemies of various shadowy organizations.
Caal- Pawnbroker, pimp and pornographer. Records man of the three. Known Zhodani mind criminal.
Chugrin- An organlegger used to being paid to "part out" specific people.
The only conclusion supported by this evidence is that an off-world government has, through Caal, brought a covert weapon, probably psionically triggered into Regina and distributed it to the poorer population that used his pawnshop. Brubaker used the infamous tactic of the hassle arrest, an illegal practice inflicted on the powerless usually to increase bribery income, to keep tabs on the subjects. After the weapon did it’s work Chugrin would collect the victims and their afflicted organs for the off-world government to study.
But they lost the protection of Brubaker’s badge by the Regent’s actions. The other two were murdered less than 24 hours after Brubaker, as their masters rolled up the operation.
Already Chugrin’s body has been destroyed, cremated at the request of his purported common law "wife". As for their victims, over one hundred names on Caal’s pawn records filed a week before he died that were also on Brubaker ‘s arrest records cannot be found by police looking into the murders.
Whatever horror these three unleashed on the lower levels of Regina is no doubt now back in the hands of the sinister cabal that tested it on our streets. Except, of course, for those poor victims yet to die, sacrifices to the lust for power.
