Shots fired at Regent!

Assassin misses Corina Ling-Raleigh, Kill Privy Councillor

As Corina Ling-Raleigh concluded her speech to several thousand supporters gathered on the Ducal Palace grounds, ending by burning her Imperial ID, a lone gunman fired on the regent of Regina, narrowly missing her and killing Pivy Councilor Edgar Tyrrel.

Elements of her security quickly hustled Ling-Raleigh out of danger, while angry fans of the regent set upon the would-be assassin concealed in their midst.

Before police arrived, the angry mob, with shouts of "traitor" and "assassin", fell on the hapless gunman, literally tearing him limb from limb.

Police have not yet released the identity of the killer, and identification is expected to be difficult. no motive has been determined, but Ling-Raleigh has ammassed a legion of critics as well as supporters since she launched her "independance" movement.

Moments after being spirited from the balconey, The Regent reappeared momentarily to reassure her supporters that she was unhurt.

In a press conference given immediately after the incident, Ling-Raleigh answered reporters questions calmly, the blood of her late privy councillor still soaking her dress. She answered several general questions before reporters were asked to leave.

This event marks a further increase in violence related to what is now being called the "Independant Regina" movement, despite pleas from the Regent herself for her followers to avoid violence. Indeed, police reports suggest that most of the violent episodes have been instigated by reactionary groups who oppose Ling-Raleigh.

Imperial Consul Refuses Comment

In an unsuprising move, the Imperial Consul to Regina, Terrance Cannaught responded to reporters questions about Imperial reaction to the "Independant Regina" movement led by Corina Ling-Raleigh with a non-commital "no comment".

The consul has become so circumspect about announcing his goverment's reaction to any event on Regina, that he has gained the sobriquet "no comment" Connaught.

Sources indicate that the Consul is awaiting the arrival of the treaty negotiation group lead by Imperial Grand Admiral William Grey.
